Sevgili Ani;

1. First of all, would you please inform us about your music career

Well, it is quite a long story to tellJ. I decided that I want to be a singer when I was four years all, and since that time I have been taking part in different music competitions. During one of those I have met my ex-producer and signed my first professional contract. At the age of 19 I have been awarded with the title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine, becoming the youngest singer ever to get this rank. During mu music career I have managed to release ten albums, one single, 23 videos, and much more. But singing for me is first of all something I love and enjoy. The best award for me is to bring joy to people and touch their souls with my songs.

2. Before being competitor against Turkey, what was our country meaning to you? Have u ever been to Turkey? Can u remember any Turkish Eurovision song which u like?

Actually, I frequently spend my vacations in Turkey. I love the country and the people. During one of my vacations in Turkey I have met a wonderful person, with whom we don’t part since thenJ. I think that Turkish singers, particularly the ones who performed on Eurovision, are talented, and I am sure that this year we will have a great and interesting competition. I hope that the audience will enjoy it!

3. What are your favourite Ukrainian Eurovision songs? How much do you rely on your song?

I like my song and the image of a femme fatale that it carries. The woman I am singing about is similar to me – strong, confident, seductive, capable of changing the world, and at the same time caring about the humanity. Such women have existed in all times; moreover, I am sure that a lot of the women in the audience will recognize some traits of this woman in themselves and believe that they are strong and capable of many things!

4. All right then, do you believe that a success in ESC will contribute to your career?

Of course, for every singer participating in the ESC, it is a great advance in a career, great opportunity to present oneself in Europe. However, I have one more mission to accomplish at this year’s contest. I would like to draw the attention of the international public to the problem of HIV/AIDS in the world. I am very much concerned about this problem; I have been a UN Goodwill Ambassador in Ukraine in 2004 and have made an attempt to change the attitude of people towards the HIV-infected individuals. I believe that public people, capable of drawing attention to important global issues should use their chance and make a difference!

5. How did you decide to participate in this contest? Can you give us brief information about the arrival process of this song? Have u ever competed at any Ukrainian national selections before?

My participation in this year’s Eurovision is like a fate J. I have previously competed at the National Selections in 2004. However, three days before the ESC another band was nominated to participate over the political reasons. I guess that it was just the wrong time for me. After that I have received invitations to join the selection process but I declined them. This year I was invited again and asked for some time to make up my mind. It was hard, but at the end I threw a coin three times and each time the answer was “yes”. So I did it. At the National Selection I sang five songs, and the audience has chosen energetic “Shady Lady”, written for me by famous Russian singer Philip Kirkorov.

6. How do you find esc in terms of format? Are there any specialities that you like or criticize?

I like the ESC format. I am very glad that more countries decided to join this wonderful contest. This will make ESC even more interesting and enjoyable for the people.

7. Did you follow up esc beforehand? Do you have any favorite song in Eurovision history?

ESC is a great contest and I did listen to some songs and watched it a few times. But mostly I was more involved in my own music work. I like Helena Paparizou’s song “My number one”. It is up-to-beat and fun. I like a lot. Each country each year sends good representatives, and this year I’m sure will not be an exception. We will have a great competition because every singer on the ESC is remarkable.

8. Do u think to organize a promo tour before May? Do u think to come to Turkey in this tour?

Yes, I am thinking about the promo tours. Right now I am visiting Baltic countries as a special guest on a concert tour of Philip Kirkorov. I want to get to know the European audience before the ESC performance. And who knows, Turkey might be the country I visit J.

9. Is the song going to be rearrenged at the esc stage? Do you have any concept that you want to form? Can you give us a hint?

I will do my best to make my performance at the ESC unforgettable. But as for now, I cannot say anything, let it be a surprise.

10. Finally, thanks a lot for this interview. Have u got any messages to Turkish Eurovision lovers?

Come to the show, enjoy the amazing energy and drive of it and have fun!
